What is a suspended ceiling?
A stretch ceiling is a simple and beautiful solution for decorating your interior. A stretch ceiling is a ceiling structure that consists of PVC film. profile, technical insert and other components. The ceiling is made from PVC film according to the drawing, its edge is harpooned. The aluminum profile is attached to the wall around the perimeter of the room. Due to the harpoon, the canvas is attached to the profile. The canvas is heated with a heat gun and under the influence of temperature it is stretched, this helps to make the surface of the stretch ceiling perfectly flat. PVC films come in various colors and textures (matte, glossy, satin). Thanks to a wide variety of PVC films, stretch ceilings become an integral element of decor, complementing the decorative interior of the room. Despite the popularity of suspended ceilings in the modern world, the origins of their appearance lie in ancient times. Even in ancient Rome, ceilings were draped with fabric, choosing the color of the ceiling so that it harmonized with the color of the walls. There is evidence that modern stretch ceilings were invented in Sweden. And the French subsequently refined them to perfection and created PVC film. Today, the technologies for creating and materials for suspended ceilings have changed and improved significantly. And now, when new production capacities have appeared, stretch ceilings are available to you in a very short time!
How to care for a stretch ceiling?
Stretch ceilings do not require special care. Thanks to a special antistatic effect, dust does not settle on their surface. However, if necessary, the suspended ceiling can be wiped with a special product (for example, a window cleaner with ammonia is suitable) or simply with a microfiber cloth.
How many centimeters will the suspended ceiling drop from the main one?
A stretch ceiling can drop from 6 to 9 cm from the main one. This distance includes: 3 cm - the height of the profile with which the fabric is stretched. 3-4 cm is the distance that may arise due to the unevenness of the main ceiling, while the stretch ceiling will look perfectly smooth. 2-3 cm is an additional distance that occurs when installing chandeliers, because All wiring is hidden under the suspended ceiling. And if you plan to install spotlights, then the ceiling will drop to the height of the spotlight. At an individual consultation, our managers and measurers will tell you all the nuances associated with the distance to which a suspended ceiling can be lowered in a particular case.
about installation
Install a suspended ceiling or wallpaper?
You can hang wallpaper both before and after installing the stretch ceiling. When choosing the method that suits you best, consider the pros and cons of each. If you are gluing wallpaper before you have a suspended ceiling installed, then remember that a few centimeters of wallpaper near the main ceiling will be out of reach. And in the future, if after 3-5 years you want to replace the wallpaper, you will experience inconvenience when removing it from the wall at the junction with the suspended ceiling. It is also necessary to take into account that at least 2-3 days must pass between wallpapering and ceiling installation for the wallpaper to dry and harden. If you decide to glue wallpaper after installing a stretch ceiling, then you should be especially careful in using tools when gluing wallpaper, so as not to damage or smear the canvas. With this method, the wallpaper must be carefully glued at the joint with the suspended ceiling.
How to prepare the room and surface before installation?
The first thing you need to do before installing a stretch ceiling is to sweep out all breakable objects from the room, cover the furniture and the floor surface to prevent damage. Prepare a communications diagram for the craftsmen (electrical wiring, heating and water supply pipes). It is necessary to ensure free access for installers to the ceiling installation site (sweep out all pieces of furniture or clear space around the perimeter of the room at a distance of at least 1.5 m from the walls). It is necessary to suspend all other repair work in the room where the stretch ceiling will be installed for the period of work on installing the stretch ceiling in order not to disrupt the technological process and deadlines for completing the work. When preparing the surface of the main ceiling before installing a tension ceiling, it is enough to clean it of dirt and loose putty so that subsequently debris does not fall onto the canvas. It is not necessary to level the main ceiling.
about the cost
How much does 1m2 cost?
The price per square meter of stretch ceiling is individual, as are the wishes of our customers! In order to find out the cost of the desired stretch ceiling, you need to take into account the type of canvas, all the components and, most importantly, the specifics of your room. The cost is also affected by the cornice you choose and the number of lamps. The easiest way to find out the price of your ceiling is to call your personal manager or call a measurer.
Why does the price of a stretch ceiling, named by the manager during consultation, differ from the final cost?
Sometimes it happens that the price announced by the personal manager during a telephone consultation does not coincide with the final price that the technologist named after the measurement. This is due to the fact that the measuring technologist, having made an accurate measurement of your ceiling, identified technical nuances and features of the room that were not mentioned to the manager. For example, during a consultation with a measuring technologist, you may decide to install a cornice not on a suspended ceiling, but to make it hidden. Or you decided to change the number of lamps and their type. Of course, you have the right to change your decision regarding the type of stretch ceiling, choose a different canvas or decide to make a two-level ceiling, which will entail a difference in price, named by the manager and the designer.
about lighting
What lamps/chandeliers/bulbs are suitable for suspended ceilings?
You can choose any lamps and chandeliers that suit your interior. However, there are several rules and recommendations that should be followed when choosing light bulbs
- If you use incandescent lamps in a chandelier (type of base E14. E27), and the shades look up, then you need to hang the chandelier no closer than 10 cm from the canvas. If this is not possible due to the design, then the temperature of the lamps should not exceed 700C.
- If you use energy-saving lamps or LED lamps (type of base E14. E27) and the distance of the lampshades from the canvas is less than 30 cm, then the temperature of the lamps should also not exceed 70 0C.
- If you use spotlights, you can place them at any distance from the canvas, and also install them in a suspended ceiling without fear - they do not heat up and do not damage the canvas.
- If you use halogen lamps (type of base G4. G9) in chandeliers and lamps, then their temperature should not exceed 40 0C.
- Important! Halogen lamps are not used in spotlights with an MR16 base, as they strongly heat the canvas from the inside.
